On my 13th birthday I opened a tiny little box.
Inside the box was the sweetest little silver charm bracelette.
I had been wishing for a charm bracelette for as long as I could remember. I couldn't think of anything more amazing then adding tiny little charms to my bracelette every year on my birthday depicting things that were special to me.
I cannot remember what my first charm was but I have a feeling that it was a teddy bear and a number 13 to celebrate my transition to teenage hood.
I remember having a birthday party the day after my birthday and my friends had all bought me little charms to add to my bracelet.
Each year as I got older new charms representing my life were carefully soldiered on by the jeweller. My fascination for all things Egyptian saw me add a bust of Tutankhamen. A little surfer was an all time favourite as I all but lived on the beach growing up.
Some charms fell of over the years and others got dented and broken and replaced. I remember wearing it almost every single day and loved the jingle jangle of it on my wrist.
On my 16th birthday my Mum bought me my very first antique. It was the sweetest little love seat with lilac hearts on it. She bought it from an antique shop that I used to absolutely adore. I was so excited that there would be something unique and different to everybody elses on my bracelet.
A year or 2 later my Mum visited Europe and bought me lots of lovely charms from her travels.
Eventually my bracelet was full and the clasp would no longer close. Eventually my little treasure found it's way to the back of my jewellery box where it has laid all alone for many years until the other day when I uncovered it again.
I have plans to have a bigger locket fitted to it and someday I will hand it down to my daughter and then her children.
This bracelet reminds me of my youth and my days in the sun.
Tomorrow on FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK
I will be showing off my Christmas tree. It looks so pretty and I can't wait to share it with you all ! Please pop in and see.
See you all then
Melanie
