A Rosy Posy Birthday Cake

On the weekend our family threw a surprise party for my beautiful Mum's birthday.
It was a significant birthday as you can see.
Normally for an occasion such as this I would have toddled off to the bakery and ordered a pretty cake.
This time however, I really wanted to make her cake myself.
My Mum is my best friend I could not think of a better way to say 'thanks Mum' then creating a little masterpiece for her.
Lucky for me my cake (all 3 tiers of it) baked to perfection and the yummy ganache icing smoothed on like a dream.

Mum loved her 'Rosy Posy' birthday cake and by the looks of everybody at the party licking the icing off their fingers, they did too !

I reused two white sugar roses and the '60' diamante cake topper from my Grandparents 60th wedding anniversary cake.
I crystallised organic rose petals from my own garden and layered them carefully on top.
I think it looked quite the picture !
It's my best cake ever by far.
3 layers of yummy butter cake using a Donna Hay butter cake recipe.
This recipe can be found in Donna Hay's 'Modern Classics' cookbook. It is a tried and true recipe of mine. It is no fail and easy to make.
I made 3 separate cakes and it took quite a lot of time to make overall so the least fuss the better !
Take a look at Donna Hay's website........I just adore visiting her Sydney store. It is one of my favourite stores.
In between each layer of cake was a thin layer of white chocolate ganache...........divine !

Join me tomorrow, I will have an easy to do tutorial on crystallising your own rose petals for cupcakes, birthday cakes etc.
It is easy to do and I think the results speak for themselves.

Have a beautiful day

Melanie
