Vintage Hair Clips

Vintage Hair Clips

I bring you all the very last find of my weekend away.

These vintage hairclips brought back many memories for me when I saw them in an antique shop. When I was a little girl, I had very long hair and loved nothing more than pretty hair clips and ribbons.  The prettier the better !
I grew my hair all of the way down to my bottom and when I sat down I would actually sit on my hair. When I sat down in class I remember all of my friends trying to sit behind me so they could play with it in class ! lol    Oh the things we remember !

When I spotted this assortment in a cabinet in the store I just had to take some photo's to share with you all.
If you are anything like me then you will remember some of these little treasures in your own hair clip collection.

I love this pretty little one below....
and the little pink one with the lovebirds on it ended up coming home with me !

These vintage hairclips needn't be used again as hairclips. I quite fancied using them in scrapbooking projects or card making. I think the little blue one pictured above would look so lovely with some pink vintage ribbon threaded through it and reused on either a belt buckle or hat/facinater.

Until tomorrow.....

Antiquing Saturday Finds Something Special

Antiquing Saturday

This antique water carrier jug is soooo gorgeous !
I just adore the colours, it is in amazing condition considering it is from Victorian times.
I wanted her badly but decided to set her free for somebody else to love.
What a perfect piece to use as a mantle feature full of flowers !

I have never seen one of these water carriers before and can only imagine they would be quite hard to find. I did pick up a card of the dealer who was selling this piece so if anybody loves it and would be interested in a price I can pass the details on to you.

I am sure you will all agree that she is a treasure !

Vintage Fashions........Just So Frilly Fru Fru and Gorgeous

Stepping into 'My 50's Closet' was like stepping back in time.  My journey continues with a visit to a fantastically fabulous vintage fashion store.
'MY 50'S CLOSET' stocks such an assortment of 50's frocks and handbags, kitchen and decorating items and crafty bits and pieces. I have quite a bit to show you from this cute little store, but I will begin today with their fashions.
Whether it be a prom dress or an occasion dress for that extra special high tea you may be attending, I can guarantee you that the dress you are looking for will be hanging on their racks.
I unfortunately missed their Summer fashion parade which was held the day I left to come from from my journey, but the photo's can be found on their facebook page.  The girls LOVE the 50's and their enthusiasm is evident from their 50's hairstyles to their sensible 50's court shoes.

French Blue and Peachy Pink was searching for her favourite colour palette and came up trumps with this beautifully fru fru pale blue pill hat (pictured above) encrusted with silk roses.
The Peachy Pink prom dress came at a very close second.

They keep a range of cute 50's cake toppers and cupie dolls which I will share with you all next week.
Stop by their facebook page and pay them a visit.

Thank you for following FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK this week.
I am constantly humbled and amazed at the lovely readers far and wide who grace my page on a daily basis.
It shows me that wherever in the world one may be, there is always a little room for some French Blue and Peachy Pink in one's life. From the sandy shores of Australia to the cottage gardens of the English countryside they come.  Your kindness and encouragement make me oh-so-happy !
Sending you all kisses across the miles......get ready to catch them

Thursday Flowers

                     THURSDAY FLOWERS

Welcome to the 2nd edition of 'THURSDAY FLOWERS' !

My aim is to share tips and flowers, plants, vases, vintage flower frogs and best of all, any pretty arrangements that I have learnt in my floristry course.

This week we didn't really get to play around with any pretty flowers but we did learn some wiring techniques and more decorative bows to tie up  pretty bunches of flowers.

SO TODAY I THOUGHT I WOULD CREATE A BUNCH FROM MY OWN GARDEN.

Today I chose some of my favourite 'bones' in my garden.  I chose my pretty white 'BUDLEA' (sometimes known as butterfly bush) which is happily blooming away and keeping home to many, many big blue butterflies.
I also chose white Hydrangae, Old Man Whiskers and Euphorbia for contrast.

This Budlea as pictured above is the queen of my front garden. She was the first bush that I planted when we built our garden. She is the bones of the garden and I love to pick her sweet honey like fragrant blooms.

Top right pic features 'Old Mans Whiskers' or 'Air Fern'.  It's spiderlike web consistency and grey colour compliment the white and green tones of my arrangement.
The white hydrangea are the very last 2 heads of flowers on my bush, I am savouring the last late Summer blooms......

and this delightful little plant pictured above is
' Euphoria Blackbird '
it's dainty purple stems and silvery green leaves are a lovely contrast with the white blooms.

The Hunt For All Things Pretty Continues

Girl Heaven !!

A Pub
A Cafe
and
A Gift Store

So continuing on from yesterday's story on the GORGEOUS French themed antique greeting cards I bring you the next stop on our journey through the lovely city of Woolongong, NSW AUSTRALIA.

We were driving along tree lined streets with the hills on one side of us and the ocean on the other. It was so very picturesque !
My sweet friend was only too happy to let me stop when I suggested too. In this case we were driving up a hill through the the quaint suburb of Bulli.

I was peering out the window and yelled STOP!!!!! when I saw the cutest little gift shop......WE JUST HAD TO STOP ! With a giggle and a smile my friend obligued. We quickly found a park, I slung my camera over my shoulder and I was off like a shot ! It's amazing how quick I can actually move when I want too ! lol

Bulli is known for it's infamous ghost resident at the local pub and it's historic homes.  Story has it, that a former owner of the pub from the turn of the century by the name of Edward Cullen haunts his former home at the pub.. (I know! I know! he shares a very famous name from the Twilight movies !)
We stopped for a very quick restroom stop at the pub and found the stately old building to be in totally original condition on the inside. Of course the upstairs accomodation had been refurbished but the pub itself had that gorgeous old style pub feel about it. It had the original tiles on the walls, high ceilings and the trusty old pool table in the corner. No suggestion of any modernisation and the patrons were all happily enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon ale. It was quaint, untouched and full of charm.

After a quick nose around, with no ghost in sight (phew !) we stopped in at the cutest little cafe for a nice cold freshly squeezed juice.  We were sitting these having a chat and I picked my camera up to take a snap of my friend when a horse strolled on past the window !! lol !
Not the sort of thing I see whilst sipping coffees at my local cafe here in the city !  I had to giggle and of course I took a pic !

Time to rest, relax and recharge our batteries with a nice cold freshly squeezed juice in this sweet little cafe.

When who should stroll past !!!

and I know you are all bursting to see the contents of that pretty little gift store.  It won't disappoint !
I loved this beautiful chair !!!
oh-so-pretty !!

and why oh why couldn't I just take down the sink off the wall and bring it on home with me ?  The owner said that she could have sold it over and over again.........and you can see why.

Gifts were absolutely everywhere. There were things hanging off the ceiling and in every available space. It was simply bursting at the seams with gorgeousness !  Pinks and greens and french blue treasures lined the walls !

All in all it was a fantastic day out with so many pretty places to see, treasures to find and most importantly the company was fantastic !
Thankyou my sweet little Princess friend who showed me such a lovely day.
Lots of love to you

Antique Greeting Cards......Absolutely Divine, Come and See !

Today I bring you postcards from my travels.....
Words are not required, just enjoy the eye candy !

Divine French antique greeting cards !

Are you loving these ?
Aren't they just adorable ?

Meet this lovely lady.........Madame Lamballe.
Painted by Le Brun who was one of Queen Marie-Antoinette's favourite artists.

I'm sure that you will all agree that my new found treasures are sooo beautiful. I haven't found a home to display them yet. I think they will go pride of place somewhere though.

Gone are the days of the handwritten letter or card in the mail. Gone is the caligraphy scrawl used by many a lady and gentleman in days gone by.  I guess that's why I love antique greeting cards so much. They are so quaint and old and full of gesture. They were an ordinary way of sending love across the miles to a loved one. They were a happy message wishing someone a Happy Birthday or Merry Christmas.
Messages of love and hope fill many a card in my collection.
They aren't always written in the most ledgible handwriting but somehow it doesn't matter.
I love the old fashioned names on the cards.........Rose, Winnie, Alice, Ada, Lily, Ruby, Walter, William and the list goes on.

They speak of times gone by, war, friendship and many a hardship. Many speak of losing loved ones who passed whilst still so young. It goes to show just how much times have changed over the years.

This blog post represents the squeal of excitement as I walked in the door of this antique store and found these little treasures.
I had quite the smile on my face as you can imagine.
