Peachy Pink Wedding Flowers

Good afternoon !

Yes it has been a while once again……..sorry

I have so many beautiful flower images to share from weddings and other work that I have been doing.

This particular wedding was a must to share.

The wedding of Jaye and Dave was such a wonderful event.

I had grand plans of travelling up to the Hunter Valley vineyards (Australia), to the location but it wasn't meant to be (my son broke his collarbone and we spent the afternoon in the hospital but that's another story)

Jaye and Dave and their precious daughter Poppy celebrated in style at the stunning Tocal Homestead.

Jaye chose such a pretty colour palette for me to work with.

Lots of peachy pinks,pale pinks, creamy whites and green foliages and berries.

She had a vision but she mostly left it up to me to make the final decisions which was such a great honour.

Jaye's tiny daughter Poppy wore a sweet little flower crown and she looked as cute as a button.

 The bridal bouquet consisted of Tuberose, Queen Anne's Lace, Peris, Peonies and Roses.  The fragrance was intoxicating.

The bridesmaids bouquets consisted of a smaller version of the bridal bouquet.

                         Ready and waiting to be collected.
         Lots and lots of hard work sitting right there in that box.

                 I love my flowery little corner of the world !

Meet My New Friend Mabel.......She Is A Dress Form !

Meet the newest member of the

 MAYFLOWERS VINTAGE FLORIST team.

Her name is 'Mabel' and she is a rusty old dress form from an old country town dress store.

Mabel's job description is to stand there and look pretty.

She must work long hours, not complain and to model any new designs that I create.

She can be hired out for weddings or other function as required. I think she would look fab standing at the doorway to an event welcoming the guests.

She is a little rusty but aged to perfection. 

She is around the age of 70 so is ageing quite gracefully really. She has a friend by the name of 'Ettie' who will be joining her soon as these sisters are (and were) quite close and should never be parted. Ettie seems to have lost her legs (OOps I meant stand) but I am sure that a table will do suffice for her for the moment.

Why the names ?

.......Mabel and Ettie were my Aunty and Grandmother who left this world a little while ago but had a lot to do with my love of flowers. It seems only right that these 2 special girls of mine should be represented in this only fitting way.

They will be dressed up and covered in flowers and will always look lovely as my 2 old girls always did.

My Aunty May had quite the love of sewing lace on all of her dresses and my Grandmother never left the house without powder on her nose or a dab of perfume behind her ear.

These 2 wire dress forms 'Mabel and Ettie' certainly have big shoes to fill...........high heeled ones to be exact !

I am sure that much fun will be had with these new 'toys' of mine. (Ettie will join her sister very soon)

This vintage peach coloured tulle petticoat has been in my cupboard for years waiting for the right 'thing' to use it on. 

Now it will cover Mabel's wire frame.

 A lovely old piece of Victorian lace serves as a scarf to keep her neck warm in this cold weather.

 A happy snap of some of my roses in stock at the moment :-)

 I have BIG plans for these dress forms and I can barely wait to get started on them.

French Blue and Peachy Pink Vintage Feathers

Searching for vintage items for my new business is lots of fun but a challenge at the same time as I am doing it all on a shoe string.

If it is priced well, is in good condition and of course it must be vintage or antique, then I am interested.

This week I stumbled upon a big bag of fluffy vintage feathers under a pile of linens in a second hand store.

I had something in mind for them and the bag cost me $5 for the lot so it was affordable.

Apparently they came from some old vintage hats that were too far gone to salvage (sad really).

The pale blue/grey and pink tones of these fluffy feathers are so soft and pretty and they made for a nice photo shoot too !

It wasn't belong before the feathers found their way into an old Victorian vase for display. They can sit here while that wait to be re purposed once again.

 

 

 

They remind me of angel wings.....

I have taken so many beautiful photographs this week to share with you all and since it is a long weekend here this weekend I will catch up on all of my blogging that I have been missing while setting up my business. I really do miss my photography and blogging.

Vintage Ribbons And Trim For Mayflowers Vintage Florist

For those of you who have followed my humble little blog for some time I'm sure you all know my philosophy of recycling vintage goods.

For those who don't here is a recap !

I believe that there is enough 'stuff' on this Earth to last us for hundreds of years.  There is a definite need for essential industry to provide us with all that we need to survive, but in other areas we need to stop making so much 'stuff' and use what is already here.

My new business MAYFLOWERS VINTAGE FLORIST is based on not only filling my love and passion for antiques and vintage but to also learn to reuse beautiful quality items that are sitting in the back of all of a cupboards.

For instance, this morning I delivered an arrangement to a customer and it had been built into a beautiful vintage vegetable terrine instead of a yukky black plastic base.
Not only did it greatly enhance my arrangement and it's beauty, but when the flowers have finished blooming, my customer will have a beautiful surprise when they empty the foam out and find the exquisite bowl underneath.
NOW THAT is a surprise in itself. That is why I love what I stand for and believe in. It is truly my passion and one that I hope will catch on for many others.
We have a precious planet that is bursting at the seams and part of the answer is staring us in the face. RECYCLE !!!

I use as little plastic as possible in my designs and instead wrap with fabrics, lace and brown paper.  When I need ribbon I am always looking out for vintage ribbons that are gloriously faded and full of charm and are elegantly wrinkled and unironed and I use them as my bows on my bunches.

Tread lightly on this earth of ours and we can then leave the earth knowing that we have left a happy footprint in the sand for our children.

Yesterday I noticed that my lace and ribbon stores were getting a little light I grabbed my green wicker basket and took to the antique stores with gusto !
By the end of an hour I had found rolls of pale pink ribbon still on the rolls and also the most beautiful lace embellishments once used on a wedding dress. They were so beautiful that I bought them all for my business. I will use those in my arrangements and gift tags and also my collection of vintage inspired jewellery that I sell.

The find of the day was an old vintage bust from an old country haberdashery store in the country. It was absolutely perfect to display my jewellery line on and finding old dress forms like this isn't that easy, especially one in great condition like this one was.
Of course I will share this dress form with you in posts to come. You will adore it as much as I do.

It gives my vintage style florist business a look all of it's own.
