Random Acts of Kindness.....The Surprise on my doorstep

Sometimes in our life, things just don't seem to want to go our way and everything is a constant uphill battle. The chain of unforseen events seems to be endless and as much as we try to hop of this turmultuous rollercoaster ride there seems to be no stopsign.  You know what I am talking about, we have all had it and know the feeling very well.   Well, once upon a time when it was my turn on the rollercoaster, a little flicker of light appeared.
It was in the later stages of the day when any busy household was trying to wind down from a busy day and tempers were frayed.  Low and behold I discover a cardboard box on our front doorstep. Wondering where on Earth it had appeared from, I opened the box and to my amazement found the most incredible 3 tiered chocolate cake with  beautiful fresh  flowers popping out of the middle. A little note from a friend attached.  It was such a pleasure to receive such a thoughtful gift and totally unexpected. The gift of giving with total love brings more joy to the giver  than the receiver.  This Random Act of Kindness touched my heart and gave me a sense of hope that...just maybe, the fog was clearing. Never underestimate the gift of giving, whether it be a warm hug, a smile or a kind gesture. When hope is fading a light is never ever that far away..........be strong, be brave and carry on

Something Borrowed,Something Blue....

There is nothing I love more than a wedding. Love is in the air ,the excited  guests are pondering what the bride will be wearing and the debating in the pews about bridesmaid colours.
Everybody is dressed up in their Sunday best and feeling wonderful, there are fresh flowers around every corner and there is fine dining and dancing to be had.......
Today we salute Prince William and Kate Middleton who will be sharing their special day with the entire world. Their hearts must be racing with excitement and their nerves would have well and truly set in.
Their gift to the world is joy. The happiness they have created around the globe is astounding.  Bless Princess Diana, may she be watching close by and feeling elation watching her precious child marry the woman of his dreams.
Congratulations go out to the Royal couple, may your love be endless and may laughter always fill your hearts..............xo

Sweet offerings from the angels.......

Once upon another time, a wise person shared with me a very special story which I hold very close to my heart.  This person spent much time with the elders of a native American Indian tribe.  This tribe believed that when feathers appeared on your path that it was a sign from the angels that they were close by.   I have treasured this story and I cannot tell you how many times feathers have floated, softy, wistfully and effortlessly down from the sky and landed at my feet.
May this beautiful tale pass gently on to you now my friends.  May the angels always be with you all, protecting you and yours xo

My Grandmother's Sewing Box

One of my earliest memories is sitting on my Grandparents huge big feather bed playing in my dear Grandma's sewing box. I just adored playing with the pretty cottons and buttons and bits and bobs.
My creative mind would go into overdrive and I'd beg for scraps to make my Barbie dolls some teensy clothes.

The smell of the sewing box to this day reminds me of that huge big bed and the smell of my Grandma's pressed powder and violet soap. The perfume alightens my senses and I am transformed back to a time of simplicity and wonder.  My Grandma always had time to spend with me and she would watch with her smiling blue eyes, my little amazed face with a look of love. I think back to those times and I can only imagine that she was treasuring those moments herself.

My beautiful Grandmother  has long left our wondrous world but I hold her legacy of love within my heart and from time to time I indeed sit on my own bed and breathe in the memories that live within the sewing box.

Hello...I am Melanie and This My Friends, Is My Story

Once upon a time I was walking through the back rooms of a second hand store. It was  full to the brim of both trash and treasures.  It was both dark and dirty but at the same time it made my heart happy and the thrill of the chase had grabbed me with both hands.
SUDDENLY I spotted an old table in the 'restricted back room'. One of the legs of the table was held on by an old rag which was wound tight to keep the leg attached.
"Can I help you there?", boomed the very annoyed voice of the shop keeper. "You know this area is out of bounds !"
With a lowered head and a wry smile came my response, "I'm so sorry but I was wondering if I could take a look at the piece of fabric tied around that table leg?".
The shopkeeper looked at me as if I were quite insane and rolled his eyes.  With a sigh he quietly untied the old rag and brought it over to me. With a thumping heart and a smile on my face '"I'll take it thanks !"

The poor guy just let me take the 'rag' free of charge, I am sure he thought I had a screw loose !  But that beautiful pink and yellow, floral chintz fabric turned out to be just so pretty after a soak in the bleach bucket. It went on to become trims to many dainty cushions, guest towels and doilies.
My love for fabrics had truly come to life with that one scrap of dusty rag.

Moral to the story.....beauty lies in the most unsuspecting places and if our eyes are watching and the treasure fairies are with us , then we shall find !
