Shabby Chic Business Cards

French Blue and Peachy Pink wanted to make her own pretty business cards.
I have always designed my own business cards and had them professionally printed. It is quick and easy and the end result is no fuss.
Sometimes though I do make my own to handout personally. It's the small personal touches that make all the difference sometimes.

For my business cards I chose,

An assortment of all things french blue and peachy pink. I visited my local craft store and bought just the right shades of ribbon and teensy paper flowers. It was all quite inexpensive to buy, dollar stores have quite a great collection of trims etc.
All of my oval shaped cards were precut and store bought. I simply hot glue gunned a small piece of paper on top of the card, added my chosen ribbon and glued on the flower. I wrote my details on the front of the card with a fine tip brown antiquing pen, (I always find that brown is a lovely neutral colour to work with as black can look quite harsh against soft ,muted colours)
I then gave each card a light spray with a great product called Glimmer Mist. Glimmer Mist is a very light glitter spray which softly adds just a soft glimmer of sparkle. I use it in scrapbooking and a special signature spray inside birthday cards. I found Glimmer Mist at http://www.auntyverascrapandcraft.com.au/ She has such pretty things in her online store.
Lastly I used tiny adhesive magnets to pop onto the back of the card.
These little cards are too pretty to throw away. A magnet offers the reciever of the card the opportunity to stick the card on to their fridge or magnetic message board.

So in a few easy steps I had created  little cards with my own signature pink and blue touch.
Simple, Easy and Very Pretty
xo

A hot glue gun, glue sticks, brown antiquing pen and Glimmermist glitter spray
were my tools of choice. A must for any craft cupboard.

Peachy Pink Goes to Crochet Class

It all began one day over a cup of tea......

"Let's go to crochet class," I suggested to my friend.
It must have been one of my more impulsive days here on planet Earth....the planets must have been aligning in some crazy weird position that day.   I had been searching for new ideas and something different to make. My childrens school fete was approaching and that always sparks rollercoaster ride type thoughts in my creative brain.
I began flicking through pages of my extremely large collection of decorating books looking for inspiration.

I turned a page and THERE IT WAS !!  The prettiest antique inspired milk jug covers.
I had much admired the art of crochet. I absolutely adore antique lace. I buy mountains of it in every shade and every design. A few inches or by the metre, I am really not fussy at all. I loooove the thought of women centuries ago handmaking lace to sew on to their pretty home made dresses.  The whole idea just seems so romantic and wholesome and beautiful. Visions of yards of lace flashed before me and before you know it I had enrolled myself in a class run by an old lady. My friend had began the class a few weeks  before me and was really enjoying it.
Yes !! I would love it as well !

and so it began.....
Week after week on a Saturday afternoon we would sit with a group of lovely.....if somewhat nutty old ladies and crochet.   My friend took to it like a duck to water. She sat happily at the table and the pretty cottons slipped through her nimble fingers and whipped up gorgeous crochet edges. She quickly progressed to more difficult patterns and knitting.

WELL.....my story was a little different.  My first lesson went along nicely. I had been asked to bring along a facecloth to crochet around. Repetitive stitches were necessary until I picked up the hang of it.  I went round and around a plain white cloth and was quite chuffed with my efforts. This was a walk in the park, surely I was ready for the next step......
On my second lesson I mentioned my thoughts to the elderly teacher. "Too easy you say !," she said
AND THEN IT HAPPENED
the moment that stopped my crochet career.
She TRIED...to teach me a stitch called a picket. Oh my gosh....by the end of the first row I wanted to rip my pickets apart and throw them over the fence. I wanted the clock to mysteriously move forward to pack up time.   Minutes rolled into hours and sweat gathered on my frazzled brow.  Please let this rotten class be over RIGHT NOW !!

My friend continued to happily chat away to the other ladies who were knitting odd dolls out of very "interesting" shades of wool.  I looked over at her in despair wanting her to come and save me from this torture.
All the while the elderly teacher sat and didn't say a word to me. I'm figuring she thought that she would teach the new girl a lesson and put her in her place.

Finally, after two hours of moving a total of ten centimetres around my cloth the afternoon came to an end. If I could have pushed a button I would have catapulted myself out of the roof like batman does  in his batmobile.
The torture was over. I was the first one out the door....

a few more weeks passed by. I had  discovered a "lovely, simple" pattern for my milkjug covers that was Peachy Pink fumble proof and I managed to master the art very quickly.  I churned out milkjug covers like a true professional. I attached pretty beads and loved my finished product.

Eventually I tired of the whole affair and packed my hook and threads into a little basket.
I will definately give it a go again some day. I still would love to learn how to make lace. Surely it can't be all that hard.......or can it ???

Moral of the story
Don't walk before you learn to crawl
and
there are plenty of antique milkjug covers out there in the shops that are ready made and desperately looking for homes.
and
NEVER EVER complain to aging post menapausal women about something being too easy
and
ALWAYS put a sock in my mouth before I speak my mind

xo

One of my very pretty creations.
I simply overlocked around a circle or square of pretty cotton fabric. Then I crochet'ed around and around my square, attached the pretty pink beads and gave it a press with the iron.

Stories From My Grandmother's Chair

Once upon a time......there was a little girl and she loved nothing more than visiting her Grandmother's house.

Her dear Grandmother lived in an old white house very close to the ocean. She lived so close, that you could hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore when you were laying in your bed at night.  Sea spray would hover over the neighbouring streets and a coating of salt an inch thick could be found on your bedroom window every morning when you woke.

Grandma's home was filled to the brim with love. There was always  a big hug and a warm smile to greet you and a fridge full of your favourite food that she would buy to treat you.
Making jelly was a must when visiting Grandma's house. She would have every flavour imaginable to choose from and it was such a wonderful thing to get to stir all by yourself...even when the jelly was "awfully hot so be very careful !"

Making pies was a Grandma tradition. She would roll the dough with ease on the huge pine table that we all sat around to eat  at night. If there were scraps of dough left she would let me make little teensy jam tarts and bake them in her tiny tart dishes. The jam tarts would almost never be left to cool as they smelt so good they would never last that long....yummy !

The thing that I treasure the most about my beloved Grandmother were her stories. I would happily sit and listen to them for hours as she chatted away about her life growing up with her 11 brothers and sisters. Stories of war and loved ones lost and babies delivered by doctors in homes instead of hospitals. I would sit there and take it all in with big wide eyes.  Her crystal blue eyes would glimmer and dance around at the memories she was reliving as she spoke.

Games of cards and join the dots were played. She had endless ammounts of time to sit there and play and seemed oh-so-happy to do so.   Wisdom poured out of her heart and her cheery disposition was so warm and beautiful to be around.

Now days Grandma has been laid to rest and her warm heart lives on in my heart. The stories that she told are as fresh in my mind as the day she first shared them with me. I can still see my little fingers clasped around the big silver spoon stirring the jelly that I would love to make. My Grandmother's chair now sits in a corner of my parents house in a sunny spot which almost calls you to take a seat, drink tea and reminisce about times gone past.  I sat in this very chair today and nestled back and remembered her smell, the blue eyes, the perfume, the mothballs and her stories..........

Until we meet again she walks beside me in spirit and holds my hand. Her angel wings are the softest and sweetest in heaven and her blue eyes are tiny stars which light up the world at night. Her laughter is the sound of the birds chirping as they did outside her kitchen window every day.

Our loved ones move on to a beautiful world of lightness and calm. They are the first ones there to meet us when we walk along the very last road of our life.  They are never gone from our hearts for very long at all, for the chains of love that bind us together are woven so very tightly that time itself isn't strong enough to break them.

In the meantime I shall pass these memories on to my children and my children's children. I will remind them of jelly and jam tarts and stories by the sea. Her legacy of life and love will never be lost as long as her memory is kept alive

To my beautiful Grandma in heaven, with the biggest set of wings

Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

Once upon a time.......French Blue and Peachy Pink had heart flutters when she discovered this totally gorgeous hand painted Victorian Era painting.
Somebody a very long time ago had a vision of something oh so pretty in her head. She set up her eisel, mixed up her FRENCH BLUE paints and let her heart and mind run wild.
She carefully sketched up her plan , drew up the letters and then began her creation.

I am so grateful that I found this beautiful piece.  It is so beautiful aged and rustic. The artist created something pretty for her home to hang above the mantlepiece or in the entry to her home. Her creative spirit soared and I can imagine that hanging her own work in her home made her feel quite proud of herself.

I LOVE that antiques give your home it's very own unique look. If you are very fortunate sometimes one can pick up little treasures such as this one that are one off pieces.
Brand new store bought pretties are still gorgeous but mixing old and new can give you your very own look which can't be duplicated.
The fun that I experience while looking through antique shops is amazing. Sometimes my basket comes out  empty whilst other days it is full to the brim.
The fun is the thrill of the chase. I meet many wonderful sellers who are so passionate about their wares and I learn so much about history there.
As a matter of fact I am doing just that today........I wonder what todays find will be !
Have a beautiful day everyone
and thankyou for visiting

Afternoon Tea for 2

Afternoon Tea for 2.....

I always look forward to spending time with a dear friend of mine. We spend long afternoons chatting away, drinking loads of freshly brewed tea and munching on yummy homemade treats.
We love to go antique shopping together.  French Blue and Peachy Pink fills her basket up with blue and pink and handfuls of lushious white lace and my lovely friend fills hers up with red and green and anything with her beloved Golden Retriever dogs on it. She also has quite the fetish for vintage  and new Barbies. I'll have to share some of her collection with you all one day.

The road to a friends house is never long...

You make me smile beautiful friend

More Antique Greeting Cards and My Wonderful Albums

Once upon a time whilst I was wandering through a beautiful antique store........I spotted this gorgeous Victorian period photograph album.  It was lying on top of a beautiful pile of lace tablecloths and it was mine from the moment I laid eyes on it. It's worn and withered pages spoke volumes as I turned each page.
The once owner had lovingly collected greeting cards from her precious family members and encased them in this beautiful album. There were little palm cards collected from Sunday school class and the sweetest maiden hair fern cutting that obviously meant something to it's owner. Tucked underneath a card I found a tiny violet flower......perhaps a love token from an admirer or from a cherished garden.
The history in this album is so precious, I so love looking through it's pages.
Sadly somebody had removed all but one photo from it's pages. The one remaining photo shows a well dressed lady in a spectacularly trimmed Sunday hat. She looks very well-to-do and has the obligatory no smile on her face  which was characteristic from the Victorian era..
I often wonder if this lady was the owner of the album....my mind boggles as to why anyone would cast off such a treasured heirloom this way.
I wonder what life was like for this lady. Did she bare children ? did she marry ? did she love to potter in her pretty garden amongst a bed of sweet smelling violets ?
I so wish more photo's had been left for me to dream over. I love the fashion of the Victorian era. I adore the long floating dresses with layers of flouncy petticoats and dainty lace gloves. I wish we still wore gorgeous hats whilst shopping in town for the day. The women took great care to go out feeling  beauiful. A dob of perfume behind the ear was such a special thing, not a given as we experience today.Times were tough for many, but life was appreciated.
If children were good then they were treated to an 'All Day Sucker' on a Sunday after church. These days a whole bag  full can be purchased and munched on for a snack. The simple things in life often pass by without a glance.

I take stock often on my lot in life.  I truly appreciate the goodness that life has given me. Sure times get tough from time to time but there is always love and laughter and I am incredibly blessed with a beautiful supportive family who are a constant for me.
It really is true...the simple things in life are often the best
xo

This was the only photograph that was left in the album when I purchased it....This lady's sad face almost haunts me, I wonder what her story is. Life was so hard in Victorian times.

Isn't this just the sweetest card ?  Look at her gorgeous little white boots and pretty bonnet....

Chatter On The Telephone.....French Blue Style

Chatter on the telephone......A girl's best friend !

My nearest and dearest friends seem to live far away from me. I wish it was not the case but unfortunately it is, so we make the most of it with phone dates.  I shudder when I see the posty arriving with our phone bill.....BUT.....we  always justify big bills by telling each other that we would spend more if we did live nearbye. Shopping trips and eating out would cost so much more than just the phone bill. We think we are still out in front ........well that's our excuse and we are sticking to it !  haha

I spotted these telephones at  The Coliseum Antique Centre on the weekend. Although they are vintage phones I am sure I would give them a good old fashioned testing to see if they still worked !
I remember having a phone just like this pretty blue one when I was a little girl. It kind of scared me to think they were now being sold at an Antique centre....surely I am not that old ?
