Antique Toys....The Pretty Victorian Doll

This wonderful display of antique toys
caught my eye at Coliseum Antiques.  This particular stall holder has the most interesting pieces, she has a real eye for quality and display. This old bureau was a showcase of beautiful antique toys and Victoriana.  This stunning lady is a  Victorian wooden peddler doll. She is in amazing condition for her age and comes with additional clothing which any collector would be thrilled with.

I love the colour palette in this bureau, the blues, greens, brown and creamy whites look so pretty together
I can just see this antique wooden horse and Noah's Arc sitting on a shelf in a baby's nursery.

and these were my very favourite....
A Victorian child's little boots. These would have suited a two year old child and were so heavy. They are handcrafted with strong and sturdy leather and had what resembled a metal rim and heavy soles. It is beyond me how a little one would have been able to walk in them. They were just so precious and a reminder of times long ago.

Antique Child's Lace Pattern

I Love Lace....
I have a white wicker basket overflowing with antique lace.
I love the fine work of this centuries old art. The time and dedication that so many women have poured their hearts and souls into is never wasted in my eyes. I thank these women for taking the time to lovingly create these beautiful trims.  They would often sit by candle light in the evenings and sew to pass away the time. They would work a pretty hankerchief to give as a gift or carefully trim the edge of a tablecloth for their tables.
Young girls were taught this art at school and would often design their own lace as a school project.

Last week I was delighted to find this precious handrawn lacework pattern designed by a young girl. It is dated April 23rd, 1813

What a beautiful piece of history.
You will find this beautiful piece at Coliseum Antiques

Visiting Fairyland...... 'As If By Magic'

'When the first baby laughed
for the first time
the laugh broke into a thousand pieces and they all went skipping about and that was the beginning of fairies'

Peter Pan....Act 1

'As If By Magic'
Sydney, Australia
In the pretty streets of Double Bay, Sydney lies a very special place....
It is a place where fairies reside.
It is where the fairies buy their little glittery wings.
It is where the fairies buy their sweet little dresses
and maybe if you look in the wee little fairy tent in a tucked away corner of the store, you may just catch a glimpse of a fairy.

This store has instant charm from the moment you walk in the door. From the warm smile from it's lovely owner , to the frilly fairy dresses and sparkly shoes.  It was so pretty I didn't know what to look at first.
After filling my basket full of pretties for a special little fairy niece of mine, I left feeling like I had swallowed a little piece of wonderful.
It's just one of those places that simply MAKE YOU SMILE !

I so wish I was a little fairy once again...how beautiful it would be for a little princess to dance around in this gorgeously, frilly fru fru fairy skirt.

Alice's Fairy Adventure

After the Mad Hatters Tea party
Alice began to get restless. She really needed to stretch her legs and go for a little walk. After bidding fare goodbye's to her new friends she wandered off towards a little gated garden........

A tiny little white iron gate stood before her. As she reached to push open the gate, she noticed the sweetest little blue fairy wings lying at her feet. They were sitting on a small bed of purple violets. The scent of the sweet violets wafted deliciously through the air as if they had not long been tread on by a passerby.
Curious, (as our Alice was) she picked up the little wings and wondered who they belonged to.  Perhaps they belonged to the fairy queen herself ?  Again Alice's imagination ran wild, the possibilities were endless.
With a smile on her face Alice decided to try the wings on....and guess what ? They were just the right size.

So off she went........swirling and buzzing through the little flower garden!

A little further along the path she found the tiniest little tea cup and saucer she had ever seen.  Then she noticed under a patch of pansies, a teacup full of little cakes.

It was becoming obvious that she had found Fairyland.......

Alice was so excited she could barely contain herself. She had wished her whole life to be in this wondrous place !
She had been dreaming about it forever !
Alice let out a happy little laugh, she kicked off her shoes and did a little leap into the air.
NOW.....if she could just find one of those fairies.....

So off she skipped with a big smile on her face.
and she lived very happily ever after.

                              THE END

The Mad Hatter's Teaparty

Alice loved tea parties !!

THUMP !

Alice came to land on a hard patch of grass. "Ouch !," she cried.
She looked up only to find herself in a little piece of heaven. Wonderland was a beautiful place. Birds tweeted happily in their nests and little mice scampered past chatting away to each other.
This little place was so enchanting and magical.

After walking for some time Alice happened upon a decadently laid table with pretty pink cupcakes, little sweets and pots of tea served in tiny china cups.  Her eyes were dancing with delight, she simply needed to join in this fine little tea party !

These pint sized cupcakes are some of the many treats that are served at Fernwood Terrace.  YES they do taste as good as they look..yummy

I absolutely adore this beautiful Trelise Cooper Kids skirt. It is made of the softest organza and has the prettiest gold sequinned bows stitched all over it............if only it came in grown up sizes I think I would happily join Alice and skip up the garden path. Find this beautiful skirt and pink ruffle shirt from Rosies Closet. A beautiful store that is fit for a princess....and a little prince !

Alice Meets the White Rabbit

....and so the story continues.

Alice loved to readshe loved nothing more than curling up on a comfortable chair and reading tales of faraway places. She was forever being told by her teacher to stop day dreaming in class. She couldn't help it though.......a butterfly would pass her schoolroom window and all of a sudden her imagination had run wild. It had taken her to a wonder filled fairy garden where pixies and fairy babies lived and pretty pink deer wandered carelessly through flower fields.  Lets face it, she would much prefer to be chasing butterflies than sitting in some stuffy classroom anyway.

So one fine day, she was sitting in her back garden reading to her twin brother......WHEN......
"Oh dear!  oh dear! I shall be late," came a worried little voice.

Alice and her brother looked up to see a tiny white rabbit run past. They looked at each  in bewilderment.   THEN......Up hopped Alice, she scrambled to her knees and ran after the rabbit. THIS was something not to be missed.  Her little imagination was running wild with opportunities and ideas. She just HAD to find that white rabbit.

She searched this way.....and she searched that way...
Where had he gone ?

and then she saw him....

He was a strange white rabbit. He spoke in strange rhymes and seemed quite concerned about being late to a tea party with somebody called the Mad Hatter......how strange thought Alice !  It was then that she decided to follow this little white rabbit as she simply HAD to go to this tea party.....SHE ADORED TEA PARTIES !..... and so as her twin brother sat wondering what trouble his sister was about to get into, Alice had already slipped into a seemingly endless tunnel of darkness and found herself with a mighty THUMP in a very green, grassy field full of butterflies and flowers.

She had indeed found WONDERLAND, the place that her imagination took her to each day of her life !
and so her adventures had only just begun....what wonderfully amazing surprises would lie in her wait. What WOULD she find in Wonderland.

to be continued........
