Happy New Year !

Wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR !
Take time to love, laugh and be loved.
Life can be short,
so live for the moment.

May the year ahead present you with wonderful new opportunities and exciting journeys to faraway places.
(Don't forget to take your camera and capture the beauty !)

I will be taking a short break from FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK but I will be back again soon with lots of pretty things to share.

I would love to thank you all for sharing in this creative venture of mine, sharing my stories, life and pretty things that I see along the way. It has opened my eyes to many more possibilities.
Love is all around us.....not just in the material world but in our laughter and in our hearts. It is in the twinkling stars in the sky that remind us of cherished loved ones who have long since left the world. It is in the chirping of the birds in the trees and in the eyes of a newborn child who sees her mother for the first time.
The web of love weaves an intricate design and is there for each and every one of us to feel.
It is up to each and every one of us to be open to receive that love.

Again....HAPPY NEW YEAR
May all of your dreams always come true

Our Christmas Celebration - Christmas Table Setting

Welcome to Christmas Day at our home....

My pink and blue theme was thrown out the window when  a lovely friend of mine loaned us some tables to seat our guests and she offered a red and white gingham tablecloth....I couldn't resist !  I teamed it with white linen and antique lace, tea sized tablecloths scattered down the table.
Places were set with my best beloved crystal, silver service and white china dinner set with a dainty gold trim.  Pears were placed at each setting with our guests names tied around the pear stalk. It was was a cute and inexpensive touch and of course some of the guests cleansed their pallets with their pear in between courses.

I used table centrepieces  that I already had around the house. I used my pretty crystal vases with wire frogs in them to stand a few sprigs of my white hydrangeas in. A white iron hurricane lamp was perfect for holding 3 white cane hearts in for my main centrepiece.
Each lady attending received a sweet little glass box that I found from an Indian discount store for $2 each. I replaced the paper inserts with some pretty white spotty scrap booking paper and sprinkled some white glitter in each box. 'Make a Wish' was my message to each lady. I hope each and every one of them finds their wish coming true this year.

On the menu....

Fresh river prawn cocktails with avocado and cocktail sauce (a 40 year old tradition in our family started by my Grandmother)

Baked pork and chicken with crackling, roasted potatoes, pumpkin and fresh green vegetables........and of course gravy

Christmas Pudding (made by mwa in my Grandmother's pudding basin)

and champagne for me !!!

and who can forget the gifts..........

lucky me !

It was beautiful weather, beautiful company, beautiful food and lots of love to share around.

Merry Christmas !

I hope your day was beautiful as well.

Gingerbread House

Gingerbread House......

The latest and most definately the last Christmas project of the year.....

Now I know why they are so expensive to buy at the shops....oh my goodness. It nearly didn't make it !   All I can say is thank goodness for icing and lollies.  I am standing at full salute to those clever souls out there who make 2 story mansions with delicately piped eaves, turrets and doorways.  This little house almost remained roofless when 'a little helper' snapped the roof in two pieces.   I had good intentions of a crushed candy cane roof and little birds flying around the chimney (which somebody actually ate when I wasn't looking!).   I am however just grateful, that the walls didn't fall down again for the 100th time
The children are bursting at the seams to eat it.........I think I will cry when they finally do.
My Christmas project took 7 hours from start to finish. At midnight last night I could have fallen asleep at the chair but ran the risk  of being glued alive to the walls in an inch of icing. I plodded on and this morning completed the creation.

It's no oil painting but it is made with love

MERRY CHRISTMAS

A Christmas Story

It was the night before Christmas...

The little girl had been celebrating Christmas with her extended family at her Grandmothers house. The whole family had come together to meet and they always had a great time.
It was a large family and there were lots of children, so there was no shortage of cousins to play with.

The Grandmother stood at her gas stove baking pies and chickens and saucepans full of vegetables happily boiled and bubbled away on the stove.  Grandma would make her own yummy home made gravy and the little girl would dunk a big chunk of bread in it and sop it all up and eat it.  Memories of her Grandmothers kitchen always made her smile.

Before everyone had arrived for the celebration, the little girl and her Grandmother would have spent hours making meat pies and with the left over scraps of pastry the little girl was allowed to make tiny little jam tarts. She would spoon oversized ammounts of sticky, strawberry or blackberry jam onto the pastry and then all by herself....and being very careful not to burn her fingers she would be allowed to put her little creations into the oven.

The little girl loved these family events. She loved to play with her two girl cousins in particular.  They were almost the same age and they loved to play with their dolls and chat about what Santa would bring them for Christmas.
The little girls would sit on a small balcony on the side of their Grandmother's home and drop their little legs over the side. They would happily chatter and laugh and pretend they were on a boat and if their feet touched the ground then the shark in the water would gobble their toes. They would almost believe their own story. They would dare each other to be the first one to touch the ground and then they would all laugh their heads off in delight.
These very good times !

Inside the house, the adults would sit and talk. The Aunties would all be in the kitchen chattering away. There would periodically be squeals of laughter coming out of the room and there was lots of tea constantly being made. The Grandmother would stand  at her stove and bask in the happiness. It was her greatest joy in life to have her whole family all together under the same roof.

The children all played outside. There was a cricket match going on in the backyard and all of the boys were playing like it was a test series. They were yelling and running and having a great old time of it all.

The uncles were in the loungeroom, they would be watching a game on the television and cracking jokes and having a few beers. Stories of work and other things that men talk about would be discussed.  The Grandmother would love to stand in the doorway to this room and watch her sons all talking and being together.  The very simple things in life made her happy. The love of her family made her world go round. They were her whole life and she would do absolutely anything for them.

When it was meal time there would be bodies everywhere in the kitchen.  Tiny fingers took plates off the table and Aunties would help them to fill up their plates.  The  children would then scoot off outside to sit and eat their Christmas meal. There would never have been enough seats around the table inside to sit at for this family. Little bottles of soft drink that had been handed out by their Grandmother were happily slurped away through bright coloured straws.
Christmas was such a wonderful time of the year.
The family were all together.

After Christmas dinner, the children would begin to look longingly at the Christmas tree. They would tug at their mothers sleeve begging for them to be allowed to open the gifts from their Aunties and Uncles and Grandmother.
When the adults agreed there would be a mad rush in the back door with bodies dashing towards the tree to find their gifts. Afterwards the children would go outside to play with their new treasures.

After a while, tired little eyes would appear one by one and mentions of Santa coming would be heard.
Washing up was done and then one by one hugs and kisses would be exchanged and the families would all  go home to settle in for the night.

It was on a night like this that something very special would happen to the young girl.......

A very sleepy pair of little children were sitting in the back of the car. The father was driving  home from their Grandmother's house and the mother was sitting there thinking about all of the things she had to do when she arrived home.
The little boy had dropped off to sleep but the little girl was oh to excited to go to sleep. She was frightened that because it was so late that Santa may have already visited their home and because they hadn't been there then he hadn't left any toys for them.
All she wanted to do was to run up the front steps to her home and to crawl in bed before he arrived. 'please hurry up and get home' she thought to herself.

It was almost as if Santa himself had heard her thoughts....

As her father turned their car into their street she let out a cry !

SANTA HIMSELF WAS WALKING DOWN THE TOP OF HER STREET !!!!

Oh my goodness she would have to move like the wind. If she could have sprouted wings and flown there she would have already been tucked up in her little bed with her eyes glued shut.
Her mother and father saw him with their own eyes as well.
The little girls eyes were as wide as saucers......it was Santa....he REALLY was here !!!

Her father pulled over to the side of the road along side of where Santa was walking.
The little girls heart was beating almost clean out of her chest. She had never seen such an amazing thing in all of her life. Her little girl cousins would be so wishing that they had been there at this very moment.

Her father softly spoke to Santa.
Santa looked into the car and said that we'd better be quick and get home to bed because very soon he would be reaching their home. He said that he had parked the sleigh in the street around the corner and the reindeers were having a drink of water and nibbling on the grass.
They had had a big evening and were happy to be resting. Santa held his huge sack of toys over his shoulder and with a wink he turned away. 'HO HO HO' could be heard and his bell that he carried could be heard ringing all of the way down the street.

WELL
the little girls feet barely touched the ground when her father parked their car. She was up the stairs and into the bath before you knew it.  Her mother came in to check on her only to find that the little girl was already dressed and tucked into bed.
'goodnight Mummy,' was all her mother heard as she closed the door and turned out the light. 10 seconds later she had fallen into dreamland where visions of Santa and his sack of toys welcomed her.

The rest of the story is history. We all know that the little girl would wake up the next morning and her and her brother would happily charge down the stairs to the Christmas tree where they would find surprises  from Santa and they would have an amazing time of it all.

NOWDAYS this little girl watches her own children enjoy the joy of Christmas. She watches their faces as they play with their own cousins and eat delicious meals around their Grandparents tables. There aren't as many cousins to play with, but the love and the happiness is certainly there.  The love the family has for each other is precious and the happiness on her own childrens faces as they wake up to see the gifts left by Santa makes her so very happy.
Christmas is about children and family and fun and enjoyment. It's about treasuring the company of the ones we love and appreciating all that family does for each other.

The beautiful Grandmother left the earth many years ago now but her heart beats on inside of the little girl. The gift of love that she gave the little girl has never left.  Her beautiful blue eyes twinkle on as diamonds in the sky. The little girl who has now all grown up looks up at those sparkly diamonds in the sky and knows that her grandmother is only a thought away.........

THE END

Merry Christmas to my beautiful Grandmother up in heaven. I sit here now enjoying a hot cup of tea that your great grandaughter just made for me and I wish you were here to enjoy one too. We could eat sao biscuits with cheese and tomato and play a game of cards and talk about good times.
There isn't a day in my life that I don't think of the love that you gave me. May you be sitting up there on a cloud watching your family from afar and know how much we all love you.

Martha and Adelaide getting into the Christmas spirit !

These are 2 of the loves of my life, Miss Martha and Lady Adelaide.
These 2 kitty cats came to us one day after being dumped in a cardboard box in a neighbours yard. They were on their way to an animal shelter when I took them in.  I couldn't bare to part them so I made them a little bed in a cardboard box and before you know it they were part of the family.
They are in their twilight years now and spend most of their time basking in the sunshine or sprawled out on our couch.

                Merry Christmas from
         Miss Martha and Lady Adelaide

Vintage Christmas Tree Lights

My Grandparents used to have these lights on their Christmas tree.........
I remember very well being all of 3 years old and being told not to touch them because they were hot !  I loved the funny looking little faces of these little lights. The bright colours used to stand out against the white tinsel branches of their tree in the early 70's. These little faces would enchant me and my imagination would take me to fairyland. I thought that the fairies would love these little lights and as my grandparents always kept a flower garden I knew the fairies weren't all that far away.
The Christmas tree was often placed in the front window of their home (as it still does today)  and passing traffic would admire the pretty lights in the front window.
There were many, many vintage baubles and pretty glass ornaments on their tree.  Over the years I came to look forward to seeing them on the tree each year.

Years rolled along........

Then one year came and on a visit to my Grandparents home I walked into their front room and found myself looking at a new Christmas tree. It was green instead of the white and it was covered in all brand new decorations and lights. Gone were my beloved favourite Christmas lights with the funny faces.  Needless to say I immediately asked my Grandmother where all of the old decorations were. I was so disappointed to hear her response "Oh those old things.....I tossed them out in the rubbish, they were soooo old and I wanted to put up some new ones!"
I could have cried !!!

Now days I see the same string of Christmas lights (if you are very lucky) in antique stores and they sell for a small fortune too !
The beautiful glass ornaments and celluloid Santa figurines are there in display cases as well. This is how I now remember my Grandparents Christmas Tree.

My Grandmother is not a hoarder at all. She throws anything out that hasn't had a use in a while and she dislikes antiques and any old. She visits our home and comments on how we could really use some 'new' furniture and how the white paint on our furniture looks chippy and worn.......lol
I don't even tell her that's the way it is supposed to look !! She just wouldn't understand at all, as a matter of fact she would think that I was crazy !

The only decorations kept from my childhood memories at their house is a pair of plastic blow up Santa and reindeer figures.
They have stood in the front window under the Christmas tree for as long as I can remember. They have had slow leaks and have been patched up lovingly by my Grandfather a number of times.
For some reason these little treasures have survived the years and my Grandmother has not thrown them into the rubbish.
Last week on a visit to their house I took my camera out and began taking photo's of them.........just in case !!!!

These particular lights are from a private collection of a special friend of mine. I am very grateful that he shared his treasures with me.
Thanks Neil xo

Shabby Chic Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas and Vintage Christmas Stocking

Shabby Chic Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas.....
I love to wrap Christmas gifts !   I love to co-ordinate the wrapping paper each year so that it all matches (I know ! I know ! it's painful but I just can't help myself !)  Each person has his or her very own paper and it has to match ! lol

This year all of the girls in the family will be unwrapping their gifts in a sea of pink and white.  I used inexpensive white glossy gift wrap for the base and then lightly glued pretty pale pink heart shaped paper doilies to the top of each gift.  I then used a white fluffy wool to wrap it all up !  Ribbon can make for a very expensive trim to a gift but a ball of wool will last for ages and better still it can be used after the Christmas period to wrap birthday gifts with.

One lucky girl in the family will receive an antique Victorian era postcard with a pretty Christmas inscription on it. It's completely original, adds a little bit of charm and looks sooo pretty !

Vintage Christmas stocking.....

oh my goodness surely I am not that old that I need to fall into the vintage category but it appears that I do ! lol
This is my very own Christmas stocking that I have used since my first ever Christmas. It is faded and worn and brings alive a mountain of wonderful memories.  I remember pulling dolls and blocks and fluffy toys out of this sack when I was a wee little one.  It still makes me smile thinking about it. Oh where oh where did all of those years go ?
The spirit of Christmas stays with us forever doesn't it ?.......our inner child still gets excited about this wonderful day.
It is such a beautiful time of the year and most importantly it reminds us all that it represents love and peace and the family unit. It brings us to realise that family is at the end of the day the most precious gift (besides love and health) that one can ever be given.

May angels look after you and yours this Christmas period.
Sending all of my loyal and lovely readers a mountain of love.  Your lovely comments and emails make all of this worthwhile.
I have made some great friendships and met some amazingly creative women through my blog journey so far and I am so humbled.
It has been 8  months since I began FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK and it continues to bring me so much pleasure. I look back to my earlier posts and I see how far I have come. From my very first story until now, I have put my heart and soul into it all. If we all work out of love in our lives I find that we are rewarded with happy hearts and minds.
My motto in life
"DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW"

Merry Christmas to you all

Christmas Cottages.....Pretty Blue and White

Christmas cottages......

As promised I bring you my own Christmas cottage collection.  I collect a new piece each and every year.  I set it up somewhere different each year. This year I have it on an antique wooden hat box. I scatter 'pretend snow' around the ground and build little paths between all of the cottages with my finger tips. A little angel stands at the doorway to the very pretty french blue chapel (the chapel is my favourite piece in my collection).  A lone sheep wearing a teensy gold bell and a blue ribbon bow around his neck strolls around the little village.......

Of a night I light some little tea lights and scatter them among the cottages and it looks like an enchanted evening in fairyland....

Don't you just love the sweet little wreaths hanging above the front doors.

Christmas Angels

Once a year in a very pretty part of my world.......
Creative women come together and sell their wares.
It is one of the highlights of my year and from the moment you walk down the path there are things of immeasurable beauty everywhere.

It is set in one of the most beautiful gardens that I have ever had the pleasure of being in. The lady of the house has an eye for anything old and grey.....  She whips up in no time a marvellous little nook or cranny with her new found treasure and it becomes a work of art. She is just one of those incredibly talented women who have that certain flair all of her own.

I have featured her beautiful garden from time to time on FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK and I have a lot more photo's to eventually share with you all.

SO.........it was at this wonderful event that I came across these these   oh-so-pretty angels.  Of course I had to have one.....or two......

Each angel is individual. She has both antique and new lace and lots and lots of vintage diamantes and buttons etc....
LOVE LOVE LOVE !!!

I could go on and on but I think the angels speak for themselves and I know that you will love them as much as I do.  This clever lady also made the very pretty Christmas stockings in yesterdays post.
AND of course she seems to love FRENCH BLUE as much as I do !
